Album of the Week: Fleet Foxes

What makes an album or artist worthy of Album of the Week status?

I like to think there are several things that go into it.

1- The CD is, in it's entirety, completely easy to listen to and no song is worth skipping. You can put it on in the car and listen to it from start to finish.
2- The musicians are just as good (if not better) live as they are on the album.
3- It allows you to connect with emotions. Specific times in your life. Memories. Seasons.

Fleet Foxes self-titled first is exactly all of those things, and in honor of their new album Hopelessness Blues (which I am eagerly anticipating in May of this year!) they have won the spot for Album of the Week.

Ragged Wood is the first song I had ever heard by the Fleet Foxes and I was instantly in love. The opening chorus makes me want to run as fast as I can through a meadow (what kind of music inspires that instant image and urge in someone?!)

It is the epitome of happy music.

Their live show is one of the best concerts I've ever seen. The handsome group of bearded, flannel-wearing men from Seattle had great stage presence, a sense of humor, and more talent than I possess in my little finger! All the various (and wonderful) instruments they use on the album were brought to life and the stage and all in all it was a lot of fun.

If you haven't heard them yet, I recommend Ragged Wood or Mykonos for your first-time listen. They also made a fantastically whimsical and creative music video for their song White Winter Hymnal that you can watch on YouTube.

I would love to hear your comments about your opinion of Fleet Foxes and what album favorites you're listening to this week!

Happy listening, friends!
