The Worth of A Friend

Years ago, during one of the most awkward experiences of my life (ahem, high school gym class) I happened to meet an amazingly wonderful cool girl named Rachael. Though it has been FAR too long since I've been able to see her and spend time with her, I consider her a very dear friend. We had so much fun being the outcasts of the class, laughing about boys and henna tattoos and music and badminton.

Not only is she incredibly beautiful and kind but she also happens to be talented as hell. She knits, photographs, paints, draws, and sews her heart out making all kinds of fantastical and whimsical creations. (If you haven't seen her blog or her Etsy page I highly recommend you stop reading this post and check it out immediately.... http://www.talk2thetrees.blogspot.com/)

Yesterday my sweet friend lost a very dear friend of her own. His name is Mowgli and he was her puppy.

Over the last few days I've been following her blog/Facebook very closely on the status of her puppy and his condition (he had a broken back). I was devastated to learn that he passed away yesterday.

Devastated, until I saw her latest post about his last moments of life.

She took him his favorite food (a cheese pizza), took him out into the sunlight and snuggled and loved him until it was time to say good-bye.

She even took some precious pictures that I hope she doesn't mind me sharing with you here.

Rachael is someone who has the capacity for grace even in hard times. She is a successful and creative and thoughtful lady and I'm happy to know her as a person and to have her as a friend.

Yesterday she lost a friend and loved one, but she gave him the best possible life and especially last moments. She was lucky to have such an adorable companion, but more importantly he was a lucky puppy to have such a compassionate and tender momma.

Rest in peace, Mowgli. I know you will be missed. And I also know that you couldn't have possibly had a better life.
